Two top executives have exited Nashville-based independent Category 5 Records. Senior VP/GM Carl Strube and executive VP of promotion Bill Macky are no longer with the year-old label.
Strube, a 30-year veteran of the entertainment industry, had been with the label since its inception in 2005. He is pursuing other opportunities.
Category 5 has hired Alan Fletcher to lead the marketing efforts of the company. Fletcher previously served as VP/television marketing for Warner Strategic Marketing/Rhino Entertainment at the Warner Music Group.
Macky, who has served as VP of promotion at both MCA Nashville and Epic Nashville, joined Category 5 last June. He's the second head of promotion to exit in the label's short life, having replaced Tony Benken, who came on board in January 2006.
But, while Macky tells Billboard.biz that a letter he received from Category 5 made it clear he was no longer employed there, CEO and president Raymond S. Termini says he is. "Bill Macky is still employed by the company but is no longer in charge of the day to day with respect to promotions," Termini said in a statement released to Billboard.biz.
Meanwhile, Northeast regional promoter David Shaw has been upped to VP of national promotions and Nathan Cruise, who joined the company in January, moves from Southeast regional to national promotions manager.
Category 5 is home to Travis Tritt, Sammy Kershaw and new artists Donovan Chapman and Jerrod Niemann. The label has just signed its first female artist, Shauna, who is managed by George Strait manager Erv Woolsey.
The label released a George Jones tribute album, "Gods Country," in October.
