Stefan Michalk, managing director of the German association of the music industry (BVMI), will step down with effect from Nov. 1, 2010.
Dr. Florian Drücke, head of legal and politics for the past five years at the trade body, takes over as managing director.
"During the past four years Stefan Michalk did a great job reconstructing and positioning the association in a new way and building up a highly motivated team. I want to thank him for his great engagement, also on behalf of the board of directors," said BVMI's CEO Professor Dieter Gorny in Berlin. Michalk joined BVMI in 2006 as deputy managing director and became managing director in 2007.
Gorny added: "Dr. Florian Drücke has a great reputation in and outside the business. With the enormous social and political confrontations in Germany and Europe for our business, the appointment of Dr Florian Drücke stands for continuity as well as for perspectives for the futures in the association's work. We wish him a lot of success."
Drücke joined the industry body in January 2006 as legal adviser and has served since 2008 as head of the legal and politics department and the BVMI's lobbying work.
The BVMI represents about 300 labels and music-companies that make up 90% of the German music market. The association is a member of the IFPI.
