Rapidshare In German Court Victory

July 23, 2010

By By Andre Paine, London

Online locker service Rapidshare will not have to use a word filter to combat file-sharing, a German court has ruled.

Ar Technica reports that the Higher Regional Court of D?sseldorf reversed a preliminary injunction against RapidShare it issued last year.

The court had initially ruled that RapidShare failed to prevent the sharing of films from movie distributor Capelight Pictures, because it didn't use a word filter.

However, the court has now decided that such a filter system could prevent people from legally saving private copies. It also found that RapidShare had no obligation to stop the sharing of download links, and reversed its previous injunction.
