Dutch ISPs Won't Have To Block Pirate Bay

July 20, 2010

By By Andre Paine, London

A Dutch court has ruled that two of the leading Internet Service Providers in the Netherlands will not have to block access to the Pirate Bay for their subscribers.

TorrentFreak reports that the court found there was no evidence that the majority of users of Ziggo and XS4ALL were infringing copyright.

Although they have lost this preliminary case, anti-piracy group BREIN is expected to go ahead with a full trial against Ziggo. XS4ALL joined in with the recent case as it wanted to challenge the move by BREIN.

In addition to that July 19 court case, an Amsterdam court ruled on July 16 that the three Swedish owners of the Pirate Bay will have to pay ?50,000 ($65,000) a day for failing to close the service in the Netherlands. However, the site is still accessible and it is not clear how the fine could be enforced.
