Label Vet George Zamora Joins Latin Indie Top Stop Music
March 23, 2011   |    By Leila Cobo, Miami

Veteran record label executive George Zamora has been named VP of label operations and A&R at indie Latin label Top Stop Music.

Top Stop was launched by producer Sergio George and George Elias. Zamora, who in the past worked as president of Warner Music Latina and prior to that, president of U.S. Latin operations at Sony, most recently was heading his own tropical music label, Zamora Music Group, which is distributed by Sony Music Latin.

ZMG's current releases, which include albums by Huey Dunbar and Andy Montanez, will continue their distribution via Sony. But moving forward, ZMG will morph into a music production company, Zamora Productions, as opposed to a full-scale label.

Top Stop, which was launched in 2009, has become an indie success story with artists like veteran salsero Luis Enrique, and most recently, newcomer urban/bachata singer Prince Royce, whose eponymous debut is currently at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and whose new single, "Corazóñ Sin Cara," last week topped the Hot Latin Songs chart.

Zamora and George have worked together before, and formerly had another label, SGZ Entertainment, as a partnership. SGZ's roster included established tropical stars like Olga Tañón and Tito Nieves, and also, developing acts in the tropical and urban space. SGZ was later sold to Univision Music Group, which in turn was acquired by Universal.
